Soft light, water lilies and 150 years of Impressionism. The show follows the French painter through his life and masterpieces: the harbours of Normandy, the Seine at sunrise, the gardens of Giverny. All projected across 3,800 square meters of walls, floors and ceilings with music carefully chosen to make this a compelling experience.
After arriving in the building you can scan your ticket at the entrance and store your belongings in the free lockers. The experience begins with a short exhibition about the building itself: how a 19th-century factory became a national monument and was transformed into the cultural heart of Amsterdam’s Westerpark. Worth five minutes before entering the main hall.
The main hall has an industrial vibe, exposed brick walls, original storage cylinders and a 17 metres ceiling. On the wall From this point, the experience is entirely yours to shape. Walk the full perimeter, sit on one of the stools, stand on the high platform at the back, or lie down on the floor of the mirror room.
The show follows Monet through his life and masterpieces. From the streets of Normandy to his famous water lilies. The show is never static: backgrounds change, flower petals move across the walls and the music adds extra depth to the experience. The second show takes you somewhere completely different. Where Monet was soft and light, Rousseau is jungle, upbeat energy and strong colours.
This was the first show of Fabrique des Lumières we visited. There were different moments that stayed with us to this day like when the flowers dissolved into thousands of red petals flying across the walls.
During the exhibition we walked, stood on the platform at the back, and ended up lying on the floor in the mirror room. Each one has its own vibe, playful in the mirror room, impressive on the platform and intimate in small projection room.
The Rousseau exhibition after Monet is worth staying for. It was more upbeat, a different energy that lifts you out of the quieter mood of the main show.
The visit went smoothly, there were no queues and enough space for everyone to enjoy. It was great to have free lockers. There are not any specific interactive elements, but the art is definitely interacting with you. And yes, you can take very cool flashless pictures in the room!
The price/quality ratio is strong.The price is lower then most museums and Fabrique des Lumieres has different exhibitions often, so you can always find something new!

The exhibition is only available from monday to thursday and saturday from 17:00 to 18:00.
❗️On March 25, April 6, 13, 14, 20, 23 and 30 the attraction will close at 17:00 (5PM). So this show might not be available. However, you can see any of the other shows: Vermeer and Van Gogh.
It’s very important to be on time because the show is only shown once.
Kids are welcome from 3 years old, the sound might be a bit too high, so noise-cancelling headphones are advised. Kids up to 5 years can enter for free, they do need a ticket, so just add it to your booking.
It is possible to buy tickets at the door (only card), but it really depends on the availability. So, it’s better to buy them online to assure your spot!

The experience is located in the Westerpark area. You can park in the Q-park parking lot at Van Bleiswijkstraat 8, 1051 DG Amsterdam. From there it’s just around 10 minutes walking.

During the tour we learned some interesting facts: The palace is build on top of 13.659 wooden poles. The building has served as a palace since 1808. The Atlas statue represents Amsterdam as the middle of the world.
