Highlights of Holland museum

An interactive experience where you can explore our country’s best-known traditions, landscapes and cultural icons through 10 immersive rooms in just over an hour. You will step inside a canal boat, cycle to music, wander through a giant tulip field and watch Dutch masterpieces come to life.

The experience

Highlights of Holland is designed as a walk-through attraction where you move from one themed room to the next. Each space focuses on a different part of the Dutch identity, using storytelling, props, light effects and interactive installations.

Upon arrival you will wait at the β€œBruine kroeg”, an authentic β€œbrown pub” that you will frequently encounter in the city centre. Here you can buy and drink some coffee, chocolate or other cold drinks.Β

The first room is inspired by the Amsterdam canal cruise boats. You will hear in an entertaining way about our history. After the boat ride you will enter the biking room, here you will experience how Dutchies bike while making your own electronic music. The room has different bikes, small ones for the kids, middle and high ones as well. If you are going in a group and aren’t a big fan of biking, you can always use the β€œbakfiets”. A traditional bike used to transport kids, animals, things and sometimes other adults.Β

The building has different photo opportunities, there is one room dedicated to make photo illusion pictures. After the pictures you will go to the windmill, here you have three games and will compete with the whole room. No worries, it’s a small group.Β

One of our favorite rooms is the tulip garden, here you can lay down or walk while tall tulips change colors. A perfect moment to relax. The second favorite room was the one with the paintings, but we don’t want to spoil too much! Just know that you will make a lot of pictures and videos to share.

This experience is a true gem, rather than simply reading or listening information, you are invited to step into the spaces and interact while learning and laughing!

Our 4.6 rating ⭐️

Highlights of Holland opened last december and is still largely under the radar, which is exactly why it’s worth visiting now! There is nothing else in Amsterdam compares: ten immersive rooms, each one a different piece of Dutch identity, designed to be interacted with. The experience is ideal to take pictures thanks to their beautifully decorated rooms!

One practical note: the system for moving between rooms is through a count down on screens. It works well, but it’s just worth knowing in advance, so you know where to keep an eye on during the visit. There are hosts present at the start of the experience and occasionally in some rooms. The experience has an audio guide in Dutch, German, French, Spanish, Italian and Chinese.

During our visit we had all the room to interact with the installations because the groups are kept to around 12 people. That made the experience very comfortable.

For the price, the value is high. Most attractions and museums in the city have a similar price, so you know that you are paying a fair price. The only “disadvantage” could be that they are a far from other museums, but it’s literally 15 minutes from Centraal Station. Tip, if you visit after 16:00 you can grab dinner after the experience at Hummus & Habibis, a delicious syrian restaurant across the street.

What we like about Highlights of Holland is the innovation. The attraction suits perfectly to the new way of exploring a museum: interactive, fun, with pictures opportunities and creative. Besides it’s suitable for every age, so that makes it easier if you are visiter with younger kids.Β Β
