Gouda Cheese Tasting Amsterdam

The Amsterdam Cheese Company Tasting is a 45-minute guided tasting of six Dutch Gouda cheeses, from young and creamy to aged and sharp, each paired with something that changes how the cheese tastes. The tasting is hosted by a cheese expert and takes place daily in a small group of maximum 12 people.

The experience

You enter through the Amsterdam Cheese Company store on Kalverstraat. Surrounded by the buzz of the city, the Amsterdam Cheese Company created a place where Dutch Gouda cheese isn’t just tasted, but also celebrated.Β

Your host is a cheese specialist who will tell you all the details about Gouda cheese making and stories of their small independent farmers and why the North-Holland milk makes their cheeses taste smooth and delicious. The group has a maximum of 12 visitors, which creates a relaxed, exclusive and fun environment.Β

During the tasting, you taste six different Dutch Gouda cheeses, from young to aged, each with carefully selected pairings that enhance the flavour.

Insider tips ℹ️

Book at least 24 hours in advance. Booking closes 24 hours before the start time and the slots sell quickly.Β

Arrive 10 minutes early. The tasting starts promptly and late arrivals miss part of the experience.Β

Stay in the store after the tasting. The cheeses you’ve just tasted are all available to buy, and the staff can vacuum-pack them for travel. If you found a favourite during the session, this is the moment to take it home.

The weekday 16:00 session is the quietest. Saturday and Sunday draw more visitors. For a more relaxed group dynamic, the weekday slot is the better choice.

The highlights ⭐️

New cheese tasting skill. By the end, you will understand your cheese: how to identify age by texture, what the crystals mean, which pairings to try at home.

The group size. The small and intimate format makes it possible to interact with the host and ask questions.

Location in the city centre. Just five minutes from Dam Square, easy to plan into an afternoon.

Our review

Most cheese shops in Amsterdam’s city centre operate the same way: free samples at the counter, a friendly push toward the expensive block, and a purchase. The Amsterdam Cheese Company tasting room is a different format entirely. Forty-five minutes, six cheeses, six pairings and a new skill to help you choose your favorite one.Β

The cheese quality is really good. The company works exclusively with small, independent farmers and the difference between their aged Gouda and a generic supermarket version is the kind of thing that’s hard to argue. The pairings are surprising and the tasting includes water or a soft drink.

At €29 per person, this sits above a museum entry price but below most guided food tours in Amsterdam. For 45 minutes of education, tasting and a skill you’ll actually use.
