Heineken has been brewed in Amsterdam since 1867 and the original brewery on Stadhouderskade is now home to one of the city's most visited attractions. The Heineken Experience is where the brand's full story comes to life.
Gerard Adriaan Heineken bought a small Amsterdam brewery in 1864 at the age of 22. Three years later, production moved to the Stadhouderskade site on the edge of the canal belt that would become the company’s home for over a century. Until they needed to move to a bigger facility.
Today Heineken is one of the most recognisable beer brands in the world, active in over 190 countries and one of the main sponsors of UEFA Champions League, Formula 1 and the Rugby World Cup. The Amsterdam brewery is where that story started, and the experience is built around telling it.
The Heineken Experience opened in 2001, but the company has invested consistently in keeping it modern, with new installations, updated rooms, and without losing the original parts like the brewery hall. Making it one of the most visited attractions of the city.
