The experience

You can board the boat at different places, wich is super convenient if you are planning to combine different activities. The standard duration of the cruise is of 60 minutes, but, if you want a longer route you can book the cruise departing from the Rijksmuseum or Leidseplein.Β 

The cruise has the English audioguide through the speakers, but by scanning the QR-code you can choose from 15 other languages, like: German, Spanish, French, Italian, Hindi and many more. The captain will also share fun facts about the city, like why are the houses so narrow and tilted.

Insider tips ℹ️

  • Pick an early (10 to 11) or evening timeslot (19 to 21:30). During these times the cruise it’s less crowded.
  • Hop on board at the Leidseplein or Rijksmuseum stop, not only does it make it easier to combine with other activities, but the cruise last a bit longer (15 minutes).

  • Bring your own earphones if you need the audioguide in another language then English. You can also buy them on board for €1.50.

Where does the Stromma Canal Cruise depart from?
The 100 highlights cruise departs from four locations. The Centraal Station, Damrak, Leidseplein or Rijksmuseum. If you board at the Leidseplein or Rijksmuseum the cruise will be 15 minutes longer, this is also reflected in the price, but from Leidseplein it’s only around one euro more.

How late do the Stromma Canal Cruises depart?
The cruise departs more or less every hour, but always check the availability when booking online. The Central Station and Damrak location have the most cruises during the day (from 10 to 21:30), followed by the Rijksmuseum location (from 10:30 to 18) and the Leidseplein location has the least cruises (from 13 to 18)

Unfortunately, the boats are not accessible for wheelchair users. There are also a couple of steps to get into the boat. If you can use the stairs then it’s possible to get on board. For safety reasons, the aisle must be kept clear and the wheelchair cannot be taken on board.

Centraal station location: You can easily arrive here by taking most of the trams, metros and trains. The pier is roughly 1 or 2 minute walk, directly opposite the station. See the location on the map.

Leidseplein: Trams 1, 2, 7, 12 and 19 stop right in front of the boarding location. See it on the map.
